English Garden Lectures

Book our garden speaker for 2012 or beyond.

Carol Chernega has visited dozens of English gardens over the past 15 years, including a two-month stint working in Jane Austen's garden.  This experience has given her both practical experience and inspiration for creating new gardens.  Carol's listed with the Phipps Conservatory Speaker's Bureau and the Great Garden Speakers Bureau.

How to Create an English Garden

Carol frequently gets requests to create an English-style garden.  But what is an English garden?

In this lecture, you'll learn how to add English garden style to your own garden through visits to outstanding British gardens.  The slide show and commentary will take you to the walled garden of Jane Austen's Chawton Cottage, the inviting seating area at Chartwell (Winston Churchill's home) the renowned 'White Garden' of Vita Sackville-West's Sissinghurst, and lots more. You'll get practical tips for adding a touch of English style to your own garden, as well as plenty of inspirational photos to get your creative juices flowing.

Carol also lectures on the following topics:

bullet   Seven Mistakes Home Gardeners Make
bullet    Ornamental Grasses
bullet    The Secret Gardens of England
bullet    The Literary Gardens of England
bullet    Digging into Jane Austen's Garden

Topics can be tailored to fit your group's interests.  Most lectures run 60 minutes and include a slide presentation.

Lecture fee starts at $150 per hour plus expenses. Raffle a design consultation with Carol to help defray your costs during an overnight stay.
